I love this website, http://www.playfitfun.com, because it has so much to offer. Instead of being strictly educational games or educational resources the site offers a blog, programs, and a bunch of resources. The nutrition education website I have chosen has so much to it that its kind of difficult to navigate and find the educational material. The educational resources are under the resources tab and offers information and informational videos on both children’s exercise and healthy recipes. Both of these are extremely helpful for parents who do not necessarily know a lot about nutrition or exercise and the growing obesity epidemic.
All of the material is very educational in these two sections and is easy to understand. The exercise option offers information on how to help kids exercise when they’re overweight, different activities to get them into exercising, and safe exercise. The nutrition section has a ton of links to other websites about healthy snacking options, healthy recipes, how to tell if you’re eating too much of salt or sugar, etc. After going through all of these sections, the most surprising part of all of it was on the home page it has the statistic that 1/3 of America’s youth are overweight. This is a crazy statistic and this website offers information on how we can change this.
To use this material in an educational manner it would definitely be directed at the parents of children either at risk of being overweight or who are already overweight. The first step would be to use this source to show them the health risks developed with obesity and then move on to step two. This would be to explain to the parents that changing the diets and incorporating exercise are two easy ways to fight becoming overweight. Play fit fun offers all of the resources needed in order provide the parents with the proper information about the risks of obesity, how to fight it with the proper nutrition changes, and also the proper, safe, and fun exercise techniques for their children.
I am an exercise enthusiast and this website is great because it offers awesome resources for parents to help their children fight obesity with not only nutrition, but also exercise. Exercise is a huge part of staying fit and losing weight and technology has taken over the lives of many American children leading to mainly sedentary lifestyles.
