This brochure is done by Kate Ruley. Ms. Ruley is the Nutrition Director at Wake Forest University. She created a brochure to give a guide to Wake Forest students to help them eat a more balanced diet while buying foods at their dining halls and on campus places. Some of these places include Starbucks, Subway and Chick-Fil-A. This brochure gives lists for each eating spot of the items that are the healthiest for you. It also gives an example of what a good day of healthy eating should look like by providing good food choices a person should make for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ms. Ruley states in this brochure that her goal is to assist vegans, vegetarians, those with food allergies, dietary disorders, diabetes, and other nutritional concerns on an individual basis.
Overall I think Ms. Ruley did a nice job with her brochure. It looks very professional and appealing. It also states a lot of helpful information for those people looking to eat healthier on campus. She gives a wide array of options for good food choices which is helpful and makes sure the students do not get bored with just eating the same thing everyday. This gives them the opportunity to eat a new healthy food almost everyday and gives them the opportunity to find out what they like and don’t like from the list. If there was one thing I think she could add to her brochure it would be to add the nutrition facts of some of the foods listed so that students can see how healthy the foods actually are for you and can help if the person is counting calories or tracking their food intake. Other than this, I believe this is a very good brochure that can help anyone looking to eat a well-balanced diet.
After looking at this brochure, it makes me think of the food being served at the dining halls here at Penn State. My roommate works at one of the dining halls here on campus and he always tells me how disgusting some of the food is that they are serving to the students. I feel like if someone created a brochure like this for the Penn State dining halls then it would help the students on campus make better eating choices. I know that Penn State is not the only school that doesn’t serve the healthiest foods in their dining halls, so I believe all college campuses should have something like this to help students make the healthier choice. College students all over the country tend to not eat as healthy because of the stresses of their school work as well as the lack of time available to pick out the healthier item. If students can get a hold of these brochures and have the background information before they head to the dining commons for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, then this will help them eat healthier and not have to waste as much time when at the counter. I think this can be something that can help universities and college students all over the country.
