2015 IFIC Foundation Sylvia Rowe Communication Fellowship

Attention current undergraduates and recent graduates.  The International Food Information Council recently announced an outstanding internship opportunity for those interested in Nutrition Communications.

Applications for the 2015 International Food Information Council Foundation Sylvia Rowe Fellowship are currently being accepted. The recipient will be awarded a six to 12 week paid internship at the IFIC Foundation offices in Washington, DC. The Sylvia Rowe Fellowship Award was established as a tribute to the former IFIC and International Food Information Council Foundation President & CEO, Sylvia B. Rowe, to help promising nutrition and food safety communicators enhance their capabilities. The goal of this award is to develop the recipient’s ability to communicate science-based nutrition and food safety information to the public in an academic setting, professional situation (either for-profit or nonprofit sector), or other public venues.

More information about the fellowship, as well as the application packet, can be found on the FoodInsight.org website, here. All materials are due by Friday, January 30, 2015.  Applicants will be notified by Friday, March 6, 2015.

South Korea Study Tour hosted by Kansas State University – Summer 2015

Have you wondered how it feels to live outside the United States? Did you want to explore Asian cultures, but you were afraid of language barriers and your safety? Here is a great opportunity for you to experience South Korea and Korean way of life, organized and led by K-State Faculty!

Dr. Junehee Kwon, RD, Associate Professor at Kansas State University and a Korean native, will be leading a group of students again to South Korea for 17 days (May 18June 4, 2015) for Faculty-led Study Abroad Tour. This is the third study tour to South Korea offered by the Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics at Kansas State University. We are now accepting applications from Kansas State and other universities in the U.S.

The tour starts right AFTER spring 2015 graduation and will be done BEFORE summer school starts. Therefore, students who are planning to take regularly scheduled summer 2015 courses or internship can still participate in this study tour. It is also possible for those students who are traveling from or to different cities before or after the tour to arrange travel plans. In other words, students do not have to be in Manhattan, KS or Kansas City, KS to start the tour. Adjustments will be made to the airfare for those who need different arrangements or wish to use their personal account for airfare (e.g., parents’ mileage programs, etc.).

Students from another state or country (international students) will NOT be charged out-of-state tuition for this tour. This course can be considered as an unrestricted elective or professional elective course in your degree program. Both 2011 and 2013 trips were filled with fun educational activities as well as cultural experiences, and I am excited to repeat this program for our students and beyond.

A variety of SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES are available through Office of International Programs, College of Human Ecology, and Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics (For HMD majors only). Please contact me if you have any questions.
