New Supporting course: Geographies of Sustainability and Food

GEOG 297H Geographies of Sustainability and Food

This new special topic course may be of interest to nutrition students interested in nutrition and sustainability issues.  It can be used as a lower level supporting course and will be reviewed for consideration for the Community Nutrition and Food Security Emphasis area.  This is an honors course but it is open to all students.  GEOG297H Course Announcement_Poster V.11.b  The course includes two Saturday field trips.

2015 IFIC Foundation Sylvia Rowe Communication Fellowship

Attention current undergraduates and recent graduates.  The International Food Information Council recently announced an outstanding internship opportunity for those interested in Nutrition Communications.

Applications for the 2015 International Food Information Council Foundation Sylvia Rowe Fellowship are currently being accepted. The recipient will be awarded a six to 12 week paid internship at the IFIC Foundation offices in Washington, DC. The Sylvia Rowe Fellowship Award was established as a tribute to the former IFIC and International Food Information Council Foundation President & CEO, Sylvia B. Rowe, to help promising nutrition and food safety communicators enhance their capabilities. The goal of this award is to develop the recipient’s ability to communicate science-based nutrition and food safety information to the public in an academic setting, professional situation (either for-profit or nonprofit sector), or other public venues.

More information about the fellowship, as well as the application packet, can be found on the FoodInsight.org website, here. All materials are due by Friday, January 30, 2015.  Applicants will be notified by Friday, March 6, 2015.

Summer Internship with Online Magazine “Foodie On Campus”

A summer internship opportunity was recently announced with an Online magazine for college students titled “Foodie On Campus”.  They are looking for nutrition students interested in writing, photography or who have social media talents.

Foodie on Campus is thrilled to announce its Summer 2014 internship openings to all students who are passionate about eating well and staying healthy on campus. We are currently recruiting the following interns:

  • Writing Interns
  • Social Media Interns
  • Photography Intern

This internship will give students the opportunity to work on a project with a nationally known Registered Dietitian while gaining valuable nutrition communications skills.

Candidates for the writing and photography internships must have prior experience. Interested candidates contact:  Faye@FoodieOnCampus.com with a short paragraph describing your interest and experience.

We are only a few weeks away from graduation and a few of you will be looking for “real” jobs very soon.  I spent a few minutes looking at some currently available entry-level job openings in the nutrition field in Pennsylvania.   I used www.indeed.com as the search engine with “Nutrition” as the search term.  In the time it took me to copy and paste these links, more jobs, and a student summer intern position in Lewisburg, PA popped up.  Congratulations Graduates and happy hunting!

Undergrad position available with the Nutrition Education Engineering and Designs Center (NEEDs)

The NEEDs Center is seeking a 5th semester or higher undergraduate student in nutrition to work with administrative and project management personnel during the summer and preferably into the next academic year. Hours are flexible. Tasks include activities such as:
Assist in creating recruitment and marketing materials for the NEEDs Center
Use InDesign software to assist with poster development
Survey testing
Preparing tables and proofreading documents
Project organization
Audio file transcription
