The role of the Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) intern is to assist with a range of health promotion initiatives during Fall 2017. The intern will learn about health and wellness services, programming, outreach activities, and social marketing efforts in a University setting. An important objective to this internship is to provide an experience that offers the student ample knowledge about health promotion and wellness initiatives in a college setting. By working with staff, the intern will participate in, evaluate and support the promotion of the Healthy Penn State initiative and ambassador program. The intern will work collaboratively and individually to accomplish assignments. The intern will be supervised by Erin Raupers, Assistant Director HPW.
The intern’s primary responsibility will be to assist in the promotion and evolution of Healthy Penn State which is an initiative that encourages the development and maintenance of a sound body, mind, and spirit. The goal of Healthy Penn State is to improve the academic success of students by enhancing behaviors that promote health. The intern will use social media outlets such as Facebook, twitter and Instagram, to increase awareness about Healthy Penn State and outreach events. The intern will specifically help plan and promote the following initiatives: The Walking Group, Take the Lead campaign, Exercise is Medicine, and Extreme Stater event.
A primary project will be to assist in the recruitment of Healthy Penn State Ambassadors. The intern will promote the program, coordinate interviews, and assist with selection. The intern will prepare training materials and assist with the implementation of two-4 hour training sessions.
A secondary project will be to assist with the launch of Wellness Services at the IM building. The intern will gain valuable knowledge in regards to implementing individual wellness services. Activities include promoting the services, assisting with the training class and assisting with daily operations at the IM building.
The start date of this internship is August 21, 2017. The intern can work between 20-30 hours per week for 15 weeks. The approximate end date is Dec 1, 2017. We are seeking someone with a record of accomplishment who is creative and values innovation along with excellence. Knowledge of and experience with evaluation, assessment and outcomes measurement is important. Experience with technology is essential. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills are essential as well as a genuine appreciation for working with diverse populations.
