Bringing you all the tech news you can handle

MKBe Amazing

I write a lot about new tech in this blog, but I don’t want to do that today.  In fact, I want to take next three posts as a chance to introduce you to the YouTube personalities that I follow as I keep up to date on tech news.  These are the people going to events like CES or reviewing new products so that me and others can get quality information about specifications and real user experience.  This week I want to tell you a little bit about Marques Brownlee.

His channel, MKBHD (those are his initials followed by HD), is one of the best and most renowned tech channels on YouTube.  Marques won the Shorty Award for Creator of the Decade and was even called out and appeared in YouTube Rewind 2018.  Marques is a seemingly average guy who’s into tech and decided to start a channel, not really expecting it to go anywhere.  He’s now sitting on almost 8 million followers, making him one of the most influential tech personalities in the world.

His videos focus a lot on direct reviews of products, but recently Marques has been adding in other types of videos.  He mixes in videos of interviews or just thoughts in with closer looks at new phones. He even takes time to look at phones or tech that aren’t particularly popular products, but say something about the direction of the industry as a whole.  As far as interviews, he has gone and interviewed Elon Musk after a tour of the Tesla factory, he has sat down with Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and now he has rebooted a series where he walks through other tech YouTuber’s setups to give a behind-the-scenes look at their production.

Marques makes his content extremely clean, aesthetically speaking.  His animations resemble the material design of Android, and they’re frankly very cool.  He keeps his videos casual but they are produced very professionally, with thoughtful framing and composition in all of his shots.  Part of his draw is how enthusiastic he is about tech. For example, he spends a lot of time on his channel looking at tech that he personally enjoys using or seeing be developed.  By keeping his own interests as part of the life-blood of the channel, it helps the channel stand out in the endless number of tech review channels of YouTube. For example, Marques is a huge fan of the matte black aesthetic, he loves Tesla, and he’s a big Red camera guy. This also adds to his good-friend vibe; he doesn’t seem like some uppity far off celebrity just spouting information.  Rather, he seems like a genuinely cool guy who’s just having a conversation about tech.

Outside of tech, Marques plays a lot of competitive ultimate frisbee, which doesn’t come as a surprise if you’ve ever seen how tall he his or how enormous his hands are.

I would highly recommend checking out his channel, you never know, you may become an avid follower of his content.  Look out for my next post on another big tech YouTuber, JayzTwoCents.
