Paradigm Shift

I think that this article does represent a paradigm shift. I think that many generations in a given interval will experience similar shifts. This one has to do with the introduction of new technology, which has had a mass impact on the younger population. While many paradigm shifts have been cultural without technology, this one is just as strong.

This article talks about the Igen generation. These are the children that have grown up with the internet at their palms. I think that this does mark a major paradigm shift. In my experience I have seen both the old and new world. I spent most of my childhood without smartphones or tablets. I went out with friends, was physically active, and experienced physical interaction. It was not until the end of elementary school that social media really took off in my grade. That is when everything changed.

Everyone got on Instagram and created accounts. Everyone started to link together, and this was very new to me. I think this marks a paradigm shift because we now have everyone at our fingertips. We are also able to talk to anyone and get infinite information about any topic. I think this is both good and bad.

I think this is good because this can make us well rounded. We can be smart and educated in literally anything if we put our minds to it. The internet and social media has opened many doors intellectually. Personally, I would never be able to do what I do without the internet and social media. For that I am very thankful. I think the internet allows the new generation to interact and become close with one another. I have many friends that I met on social media. I am also a finance major, so the networking opportunities are endless.

I think it is negative because there are many people who do not take advantage of the face to face side of networking. Many people keep their social interactions only online. They never make the effort to talk in person, which may be why the article talks about the mental issues due to this shift. I hope this changes, but I am sure it may only get worse.

All in all, I think this shift is one of positivity. I think the world needs to be connected in this modern world. Overall, we are benefiting from it. We are advancing and becoming more complex as individuals and as a society. I wonder what the next shift will be. I hope it is one of positivity.
