Makeup, Don’t Makedown

How much makeup should you really wear to work? Is there really such thing as wearing too little or too much makeup to work? Should you even wear makeup to work?

People may have differing opinions than I do, but I think wearing makeup to work is a must. Now I am not saying you need to wear a lot of makeup, but I do believe wearing makeup completes your look and makes you look like you take what you do seriously. Wearing makeup disguises exhaustion, boosts your confidence, and focuses on your best features.

I think there is such a thing as wearing too much makeup in a professional setting. Your makeup should not look like you are ready to hit the clubs or look like you have spent more than an hour perfecting your makeup. Instead, your makeup should be fresh, simple and have the purpose of subtly highlighting the features on your face, while showing off your personal style.

So how much makeup is enough? And how much is too much? Let’s explore the dos and don’ts of wearing makeup in a professional setting.

Face

  • Foundation and concealer should match your skin tone and should be blended well. Your foundation should not be noticeable. It should look natural.
  • Bronzer should be used in moderation and only used around your face.

Eyes

  • Stay away from glittery eye shadows and bright-colored eye shadows.
  • They can be distracting and take away from you. Instead, stick to more muted tones and natural skin tones.
  • When it comes to mascara, less is more. Lightweight will take you further than thickening mascara. Clumps are your worst nightmare.
  • Fake eyelashes are a no no in the work place.
  • Eyeliner should be used in moderation and should only be applied on the tops of your eyelids. It should be relatively thin and follow your eye line.

Lips

  • The color on your lips should not be distracting. They should compliment your coloring.
  • Do not go super bold and bright.
  • Limit the amount of shine and sparkle.

Keep in mind that you are representing yourself and are seeking to go further in the work place. Makeup should to add to your first impression, not take away from it.

As always, stay classy x
