Honestly, coming into this course, I did not have a clear idea of what rhetoric and civic life were. These concepts were not really discussed at all in my high school so they were relatively new to me coming in.
That being said, I think this class has done a great job of explaining what these mean along with other significant concepts. I have felt that throughout the semester, this class has taught me many things regarding perspective, presentation skills, and what civic engagement means. I particularly felt that the Ted Talk assignment was interesting as I had never done anything like that in the past. Usually, presentations are more structured and rigid so it was nice to be able to do something more free in terms of approach. I also feel that the skills that I have learned from this class will be useful for me for a long time, throughout my college years.
Ultimately, this class has been a great introduction to how college-level classes function and what is expected from them. The speaking skill and writing skills I have learned here will no doubt assist me for a long time and I can definitely say I have grown considerably as a speaker as a result of taking this class.
