Civic Issues blog:
- Dis-unity and negativity
- In the news and across the country, there appears to be a lot of negativity. Both sides are engaging in more vitriolic political discourse and it is not serving our society well. As someone who considers myself a moderate politically, I see or politics getting increasing extreme. The negativity of the media and politicians is eating away at the social fabric of our society. If we do not do something quickly to re-unite our country through our basic core values than the greatest experiment in human history will die of it’s own fruition.
- Sports infrastructure:
- In 2016, the City of San Diego voted not to build the Chargers a new stadium and the team moved to Los Angeles. Just a few weeks ago, Calgary voted not to host the 2026 Winter Olympics due to the enormous costs. The debate about the building of sports facilities by municipal governments is an increasingly hard one to unravel for sports fans and the costs and benefits are greatly debated on what role government should play in facilitated our favorite teams and events.
Passion blog:
- Backpacking in Colorado
- Over the summer I explored one of my greatest passions. I got very high in Colorado; 12, 13, even 14 thousand feet to be exact deep in the Rockies Backpacking through the Maroon was an amazing adventure. I spent the last semester discussing the trip and would love to continue sharing my love of Colorado with you guys. My dad is from Colorado and it’s almost feels like a second home. It is a truly amazing place (go Broncos!)
- Canoeing in Canada
- A couple years before I backpacked through the Maroon Bells of Colorado, I went on my first large-scale outdoor adventure was a 70-mile canoe trip through Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. If Colorado does not sound interesting to you guys, then perhaps Canada would be more to your liking.
“This I Believe”
- I believe in resilience, the ability to overcome adversity. I believe that for one to find happiness and success, they must be resilient. The reality of life is that it’s not without struggle and failure, sometimes out of our control, sometimes of our own making, but we must put it in perspective and keep trying. Without getting into too many details, I have certainly had my fair share of obstacles and mistakes. If I learned anything from my years spent playing basketball, it was the belief that if after missing 10 shots, you still have to take the 11th. It’s that burning desire that allows us to get out of bed every morning.
- I also believe in the value of fresh air. As an Eagle Scout, I learned to appreciate the importance of the outdoors. To me, it acts as a stress reliever, a source of beauty, exercise, relaxation, and leisure. From the peaks of Colorado to the beaches of North Carolina to the woods of Pennsylvania, I believe in the value of exploring the great outdoors is integral to our physical and emotional health.
Civic issues- I loved your idea about writing about the polarized America that we all live in. Our nation is completely split and that has been a constant topic mentioned through out new sources since the most recent election and I think reading about this would be very interesting!
passion- I am a big outdoors person as well and my family goes to Colorado about twice a year so both of these blogs I think would be extremely interesting. Especially because you are so passionate!
This I Believe- I love your first idea about resilience because I think it could be very relatable to listeners but also bring something new to the table. Great job!
I really enjoy your “This I Believe” ideas especially the first one with overcoming adversity because I believe that many people have to overcome that in life so that the can continue throughout life. Your civic issues blog ideas are quite interesting and I can see myself reading this when we do blogs just to keep myself updated with the topic. Lastly your passion blog post ideas I like how they both have something to do with the outdoors so they both relate in a way.
