Medium Vanilla Shake

My tastebuds tingle just thinking about a medium vanilla shake from DairyQueen. A timely classic, the vanilla milkshake serves as the go to drink for the warm summer nights. Some may say it’s only ice cream, but I disagree. Although, there are debates between vanilla and chocolate, the correct answer will always be vanilla. Nothing can beat the customizability of vanilla – it is the staple, after all!

The medium vanilla shake is quite simple, there’s only 4 ingredients: vanilla soft serve, 2% milk, vanilla extract, and whipped cream. Even though it is simple, vanilla shake will shake you up. Vanilla ice cream serves as the foundation of the shake, giving it a rich and luscious flavor. Milk creates the perfect milkshake consistency, creating a creamy texture. What’s the best part of the shake? The vanilla extract of course! The vanilla extract lends it delectable flavor and unforgetting aroma. It’s the reason for the medium vanilla shake’s classic taste. Finally, to top things off, vanilla shakes are topped off whipped topping. Get it? Whipped topping adds a touch of sweetness! Although, not found at our DQ, you can serve a vanilla shake with a maraschino cherry, adding a burst of color.

Now that we know the ingredients, let me teach you how to make a medium vanilla milkshake:

  1. First grab a medium shake cup. We keep ours on top of the slushy machine (a post for another time).
  2. Fill the cup to the blue line with 2% milk, DQ standards!
  3. Since we’re making a medium shake, we add 3 pumps of vanilla extract to maximize the flavor.
  4. Put a lid on the cup and fill it up with ice cream until the point
  5.  where the lid and cup meet; this is the perfect amount of ice cream. We’re almost done!
  6. Turn the dial on the blizzard machine to 30, and insert the cup all the way up machine.
  7. Press your foot on the foot pedal and move the cup around.
  8. While your foot is on the foot pedal take the cup out of the machine.
  9. Finally, get your whipped topping and top it off.

Wow! Now you can make a medium vanilla shake at DQ! The vanilla shake is one of the simplest menu items to make.

Like most things at DQ, the medium vanilla shake contains the quality of customizable. Customers can add any topping to their shake, with a charge of $0.59. Additionally, customers can add any candy pieces; a lot of people who add candy pieces opt to make a Oreo shake, yummmmmmmmmm.

Medium is the perfect size for the vanilla shake because a small is too small and the large is too large! The medium leaves you satisfied for your current trip, but you’ll come back the next week.

The medium vanilla shake from Dairy Queen isn’t just a dessert; it’s a timeless treat!   Your taste buds will thank you, and you’ll leave with a smile that’s as sweet as the shake itself. It’s the “shake-tastic” way to sweeten up your day! Don’t forget the next time you drive by a DQ, make sure to stop and order a medium vanilla shake.

Small Oreo Blizzard

Served upside down or the next one’s free. That’s the motto of the DQ Blizzard.

The idea came from a rival custard stand called “Ted Drewes.” The story comes from St. Louis where a 14 year old kid kept coming back to this custard stand and asking for a thicker and thicker shake. One day, Ted Drewes Jr. Reached his breaking point and turned the shake upside down. The goal of this was to show that the shake was so thick that it wouldn’t fall out of the cup.

Fast forward to the 70s, when St. Louis businessman Sam Temperato saw the idea of Ted Drewes. Using his creativity, Temperato proposed an idea in 1983. His idea: a frozen treat blended with fruits and bits of candy. In 1985, DQ put Temperato’s idea into menus, and sold more than 100 million units.

The first Blizzard was the Oreo Blizzard (technically). When Dairy Queen pitched this idea to Oreo, they claimed the idea was outlandish. With this rejection, Hydrox, a company like Oreo, offered to let DQ use their cookies. With Hydrox, Oreo sold more than 100 million units in the first year. After seeing the sales of the first year, Oreo partnered with DQ to form the original Oreo Blizzard. Mm mm mmmmmm.

The Oreo Blizzard is my personal favorite. If a customer tells me to recommend them a Blizzard, I always tell them they can never go wrong with the Oreo. It is the most popular blizzard, too! The beauty of the Oreo Blizzard is that it’s so simple. There are two ingredients: ice cream and Oreos.

Ingredients of the Small Oreo Blizzard:

Vanilla Ice Cream: The base of every Blizzard is Dairy Queen’s famous soft-serve vanilla ice cream. It’s creamy, smooth, and has the perfect curl on top.

Oreo Cookies: The star of the show. Oreos are crushed and mixed into the ice cream. These classic chocolate wafer cookies with a sweet cream filling add a delightful crunch and chocolatey goodness to the Blizzard.

The best thing about Blizzards is that they are customizable. You can add any topping, whatever floats your boat! If you want M&Ms in your Blizzard, go ahead and ask for some M&Ms! If you want some chocolate syrup, go ahead and add it! The possibilities are endless, after all it is your Blizzard. What makes the Oreo so magical is the contrast between soft and crunchy. The ice cream serves as the perfect creaminess, and the Oreos give you a satisfying crunch. The sweetness of soft serve complements the crunch, making you crave more.

The best part of getting a small Oreo Blizzard is that it’s the perfect size. If you want more, you can always order another Blizzard; if you want a perfect size, you should order a small. It is a convenient size for kids and adults! There’s no shame in ordering a medium or large; I just prefer the small because it satisfies my cravings.  The Blizzard is the perfect treat on the road, or if you want to sit down. It’s perfect for a night with friends and family, or just a night out alone. Next time you drive by a DQ, make sure to stop and order a small Oreo Blizzard. Served upside down or the next one’s free!

4 or 6 Piece Chicken Strip Basket

Mmm, mmm, mmmmmmmmmmmm. Don’t even get me started on the chicken strips, with the mouthwatering exterior and juicy interior, my favorite hot item at DQ. Few things can satisfy a fast food craving like a basket of crispy golden chicken tenderloin. You might be surprised to learn that Dairy Queen doesn’t just serve sweets if you’ve been there. I dive into the fascinating world of Dairy Queen chicken strips – crispy, juicy and full of flavor – in this blog post.

The secret to a delicious Dairy Queen chicken strip lies in the preparation. Every strip of meat is meticulously breaded and seasoned, ensuring every bite is full of flavor. The Result? A delicious combination of crispy golden crust and juicy tender chicken inside. With Dairy Queen becoming more of a restaurant than an ice cream spot, the chicken strips are quickly becoming a fan favorite. Once you eat one, you feel like you have to eat another, until your body tells you to stop. That’s just how good they taste! I remember while the Dairy Queen was still under construction, my friend texted me saying he saw an ad on the chicken strips and was in awe of how good they looked.

Dairy Queen offers a wide selection of  their tender chicken. Whether you’re eating alone or sharing a meal with friends and family, you can choose from a variety of servings. Options range from a 4-piece meal to a 6 piece meal. You can also toss them in Honey BBQ sauce (something I do on occasion). The 4 and the 6 piece meal include fries and Texas Toast (a fan favorite), additionally you can add a fountain drink for a little extra.  (Pro tip: Choose a larger size; you won’t want to share!)

Without a variety of delicious dipping sauces, a dinner with tender chicken would not be complete. You can choose from a variety of options at Dairy Queen, including long-standing classics like house-made Hidden Valley Ranch, honey mustard, buffalo, and barbecue; If you’re feeling daring, try their famous DQ gravy; you can never go wrong with the classic ketchup. My personal favorite: the house-made Hidden Valley Ranch.

If you’re feeling less hungry – or don’t want to spend $10 on lunch – you can opt for the $7 meal deal. This meal includes 3 pieces of chicken strips, regular fries, a fountain drink, and a small sundae or you can upgrade it to a small blizzard for $2. Many people choose to go with the $7 meal deal because of the value it holds; all these items on their own would add up to around $13 – $14. I don’t know anyone that wouldn’t want to save 50% on a meal!

The chicken strips at DQ have definitely made a name for themselves. DQ was on top of their game when they added them to the menu. It is the perfect combination to go with their famous ice creams and blizzards. On top of that, it makes a perfect dinner spot because you can eat some hot food and stay in the same location to pick up a cold treat. Next time you drive by a DQ, make sure to stop and order a 4 or 6 piece chicken strip basket!

Small Strawberry Sundae

Hey guys! This is my first post and I look forward to blogging about the different menu items I tried over the course of my four years I worked at Dairy Queen. Ever since I was a kid, I loved the strawberry sundae from Dairy Queen. It is my go to option until this day, and I don’t think that it will be replaced. The strawberry sundae could be the only item at DQ, and I would still go to DQ over any other ice cream store. Throughout the past 4 years, I dedicated most of my free time to my family’s Dairy Queen.  About half of the shifts I worked, I devoured a small strawberry sundae. The other half, I tried different blizzards and customer favorites like the Peanut Buster Parfait. Below is an image of a strawberry sundae a customer receives when ordered at Dairy Queen.

The strawberry sundae serves as the perfect summer or winter treat for friends, families and gatherings. The vanilla ice cream perfectly captures the natural sweetness of the strawberries, and serves as the ideal base for any strawberry sundae. Strawberry sundaes contain important vitamins necessary for the human body, including fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese, and vitamin B6.

People love the strawberry sundae because it provides a blank canvas. The opportunities with an item like the strawberry sundae are endless. With over 30 toppings at DQ, the strawberry sundae can be mixed and matched millions of times with so many different toppings! Ice cream lovers with different tastes remain satisfied with their strawberry sundae no matter the how they differ from one another.

No matter what type of sundae you love, other sundaes deserve a chance. If the strawberry sundae didn’t exist, my go to would be the chocolate sundae with some chopped peanuts. The universe of ice cream flavors goes on forever at DQ, and everyone holds onto the one thing they love. Ice cream isn’t just about the sweet goodness itself, it’s a social experience. The strawberry sundae creates the foundation to create sweet memories with friends and families. The different toppings create a happy environment for everyone, and the sundae is a household treat for any type of family. The reason why ice cream makes good memories is backed by science. Amino acids, such as tryptophan, boost serotonin produced which makes us happier when we eat ice cream. For millions of Americans, ice cream is their go to dessert, and I see why that nothing comes close to second.

The Strawberry sundae isn’t just a dessert, it rules as the best dessert item and brings out the best in vanilla soft serve and the natural sweetness of strawberry topping. Ice cream creates a common ground where relationships are built and memories are forged, from youngsters giggling over colorful scoops to adults remembering their favorite childhood treats, making it a symbol of simple, shared pleasures. Next time you drive by a DQ, make sure to stop and order a small strawberry sundae.
