Library Modules in Canvas

The most cohesive experience for students is when they do not have to leave their learning environment. Even many residential courses use Canvas for some aspect of the class. For these reasons, we have created a few different ways to integrate library modules into Canvas. One is with the manual Canvas integration covered here (add link). The other two are an information literacy repository and the Credo information literacy tutorials.

The repository houses intentionally built and robust modules related to library skills like APA, evaluating information, evaluating crediblity, searching databases, creating research questions, and the like. We can create additional modules based on your preference! These modules can be imported into any Canvas course and are all licensed with Creative Commons. It should be noted that these are not simple videos or how-to tutorials. Rather, they are complete modules. That being said, you are free to adapt and reuse them however you like. You can take specific pages, choose not to use the assessments, or mix and match them together. If you are interested in looking at the modules, contact victoria@psu.edu or rap160@psu.edu and we can work with you to see what fits for your course.

Credo Information Literacy modules provide ready-made and ready to implement tutorials into your course. These learning objects, focused on foundational information literacy skills are offered through an external company that has LTI integration with Canvas. There are over 60 videos, tutorials, and quizzes that cover various information literacy concepts. Within Canvas, the Credo quizzes are able to be added via LTI so the score can be recorded in the grade book. Tutorials and videos can be embedded as well as additions to course modules. We can share Credo content via course templates for easy addition to courses. If you are interested in seeing what Credo has available for integration into your course, contact Emily Rimland at elf113@psu.edu.
