Much like my basketball post last week, baseball is a sport that I have played since I was about five years old. Baseball is a game that is not as active or as physical as basketball, and it is also much more challenging, which is why I enjoy it. Baseball fields come in all different sizes, but all fields have certain things in common. All fields are split into two parts, the infield, and the outfield. The infield is typically made up of dirt, while the outfield is the grass section. They all have four bases aligned in the shape of a diamond around the infield, with each base being 90 feet away from the next one. They all also have a pitcher’s mound in the center of that diamond. In order to start a game, you need two teams with nine players each. One team goes out on the field to play defense, while the other team stays in and starts on offense. The team on defense spreads its players out evenly across the field, with four infielders, three outfielders, a pitcher, and a catcher. The team on offense has one batter go up at a time in hopes that he can hit the ball. The pitcher from the team on defense throws the ball to the batter, and the defense hopes the batter does not hit the ball. Teams rotate from offense to defense after the team on defense is able to get three outs. Outs are made in one of three ways; a strikeout, a flyout, or a groundout. Strikeouts are when the batter swings at misses at three pitches. Flyouts are when the batter hits the ball in the air, and a defensive player catches the ball before it hits the ground. A ground out is when the ball is hit on the ground at a defensive player, and they pick it up and throw it to whichever base is necessary. Baseball games are set in nine innings. Each inning consists of six total outs, three for each team. After each team has gone through the rotation of three outs on both offense and defense, a new inning begins. In the rare event that the game is tied after the first nine innings, the game goes into extra innings. Extra innings go on until the game is no longer tied. Fun fact, the game with the most extra innings in Major League Baseball history lasted 33 innings. On June 23, 1981, it took the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings eight hours and twenty-five minutes to play their game. Baseball is a very challenging game and the rules can be confusing to someone who is just starting, but I feel that it is enjoyable and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to have fun with some friends.

Great job! I enjoyed you detailed description of the game and I can tell how much you love it from your description. This informational piece was very informative and I learned that the bases are 90 ft apart which I did not know prior to reading this. As a history enthusiest, I really enjoyed the inclusion of the longest baseball game in history fact. Overall you did a great job and I think you should be able to share your descriptions of these games because you are really good at explaining them.
