Bowling is a fun activity that people of almost any age can do, and it is a great way to have fun with a group of friends. Unlike most of the other sports I have talked about, almost all of the equipment needed to bowl will be provided to you. When you go to a bowling alley, they will give you a bowling ball and bowling shoes, allowing you to enjoy yourself and not worry about buying equipment. The point of bowling is to roll your ball down the lane to knock over bowling pins. Most alleys will have ten pins at the end of them, and you will be given two opportunities to roll your ball down the lane and knock over the pins. Regulation lanes are 60 feet long and 42 inches wide. Each set of two rolls is called a frame. Bowling games are ten frames long. There are two ways you can go about rolling the ball. Most amateur bowlers roll the ball straight hoping to send it down the middle and knock over as many pins as possible. However, more advanced bowlers spin the ball and hope that the spin knocks over more pins. Though the method of spinning the ball often leads to knocking over more pins, it is also more challenging to keep the ball within the lane. If the ball rolls outside of the lane, it will find its way into the gutter and you will not knock over any pins on that roll. Bowling is an exciting way to have fun with a group of friends, but it is also an expanding sport on the professional level. Professional bowlers travel around the country Playing in different events and winning prize money based on how well they did. The major bowling organization in the United States is the Professional Bowlers Association, (PBA), and they hold five major events each year. The most important of these events is the PBA World Championship, and the prize money for winning this event is $20,000. I am proud to say that I grew up about 20 minutes away from where Roy Munson (and his rubber hand) discovered the greatest Amish bowler alive, Ishmael Boorg. The two went on to show what, “one for all, all for one” meant, and went on to nearly win the 1996 world championship. If you don’t understand that reference, you have to go watch the greatest bowling movie ever, Kingpin.

I don’t often think of bowling as a sport, but your description reminded me how tricky it actually is. I love bowling but am not ashamed to say that I prefer WII bowling 9 times out of 10. I loved your use of “one for all, all for one” as it perfectly fit into the theme of your blog! Good job!

My dad is someone who takes bowling very seriously. On days when we had nothing to do, my dad almost always found an excuse to get us bowling. I’m not the greatest at it but I find it fun and challenging. Great job!

Great job! You did an excellent job thoroughly explaining the game! I think your description shows that you did your research and have good knowledge of the game as a whole. I liked your use of chiasmus and parentheses, as they added depth and dynamic to your piece. Overall good job and I can’t wait to see what sport you introduce next!
