Activity: Using an iPad

This activity will provide you and your partner with experience in constructing flowcharts using the LucidChart application. At the end of this activity, you will…

  • Be able to create a functional description of the problem.
  • Be able to construct processing steps to solve the given problem.
  • Be able to document the functional description of the problem as flowchart comments.

The Assignment

Using an iPad is generally considered so easy for users that no instructions are provided; the interface is considered intuitive enough for anyone to learn. However, sometimes explaining a particular iPad function to someone else can be difficult. Consider the process of taking a photo and uploading it to Facebook – while many of use find this easy, others may not.

In this assignment you will gain some experience using the LucidChart iPad app as well as in building flowcharts. Using the iPad provided by the instructor, you and your partner should create a single LucidChart flowchart to implement your algorithm for the following tasks:

  • Set a reminder on your iPad for 12:00 noon today. Make sure to name your reminder as “Using an iPad” and to place your names in the “Notes” portion of your reminder.
  • Your reminder should use the “By the Seaside” sound. Note that you will need to go into the Settings app and alter the Sound options to make this happen!

Be explicit in your flowchart; remember, others will be expected to follow your logic. Don;t forget to add one comment per flowchart symbol! The Apple tutorial “Use Reminders on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch” is a great resource, but you may not use Siri as part of your solutions.

When completed, be sure to submit the flowchart (as a PDF) into the Canvas dropbox.
