Welcome to my blog focusing on local and global true crime stories.

My name is Eliot DeVita and I have always been fascinated with true crime. From a young age, I was interested in the horror film genre–perhaps it stemmed from the fact that the very first movie I saw in theater, at the age of 3, was Silence of the Lambs. Although I don’t remember that movie at all, I blame that day for making me into the horror-buff I am today. Much of my childhood was spent watching/ reading Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark. Coming into my adult years I now have a pretty impressive list of horror movies under my belt. Although horror movies give me an undeniable adrenaline rush, they aren’t real. I have no connection to the actual stories of Michael Myers or Freddy Kreuger–that is what makes true crime different.

True crime involves real things that happen to real people. This makes the experience of reading/ listening to true crime more intense and frightful. I feel personally connected to the victims after each story I hear about. These aren’t just fictional characters who happened to fall into the hands of a serial killer, they are people like me and you with complex life stories, families, friends, memories.

This blog is meant to serve as a beginner’s guide to true crime with weekly stories about these events. If you feel like you want to do more research on your own or need some podcast recommendations, here are a few of my favorite true crime podcasts:
