Cassie Jo Stoddart

Cassie Jo Stoddart, 16 at the time of her murder

Cassie Jo Stoddart was house sitter for her aunt and uncle on September 22, 2006 in northeast Bannock County. She was hired to take care of her family’s three cats and two dogs for the weekend. She invited her boyfriend, Matt Beckham, to the house where arrives around 6pm. Later on, their classmates, Brian Draper and Torey Adamcik, also visited the house to hang out with the couple. After giving them a tour of the house, Draper and Adamcik ended up leaving to go see a film in town.

After leaving the house, Draper and Adamcik returned to the neighborhood, parked down the street and put on costumes that consisted of dark clothing, gloves, and white masks. They entered the house, undetected, through the basement door and intentionally made loud noises to lure Beckham and Stoddart downstairs. Eventually, they found the breaker and turned the power off in the house. When the couple still did not go downstairs, the boys turned the lights back on.

At this point, Stoddart was feeling uneasy and Beckham could tell. Feeling empathy for her, he offered her a place to sleep at his house, but since she was house sitting she felt bad for leaving, denying his offer. Beckham was picked up at 10:30 pm by his mother, leaving Stoddart at the house by herself.

Draper and Adamcik were aware that Beckham left, so they headed upstairs with a dagger-type weapon and a hunting-style knife. The boys brutally attacked Stoddart, stabbing her 30 times and leaving 12 fatal wounds.

During investigation, the police discovered that Draper and Adamcik has recorded their plan to murder Stoddart in advance on video tape while they were at school. This footage was shown at their trials. The boys also claimed there were inspired by the movie franchise, Scream, which inspired the murder of Stoddart. They also kept an unknown “death list” that contained the names of several of their friends and classmates–one name was Cassie Jo Stoddart.

The following video was the actual footage from Adamcik and Draper from the night before the murder, the night of the murder, and after the murder. The content may be disturbing for some.

Civil Suit Filed by the Stoddart’s

In 2010, the Stoddart family filed a civil lawsuit against the Idaho School District, where the teens attended school, claiming the school was negligent and should have known that Draper and Adamcik posed a threat. The civil court and Supreme Court dismissed the case, stating the actions of the killers were not foreseeable.
