The Original Waffle Shop

I don’t know about you guys, but breakfast food is my FAVORITE type of food, and I could eat it all day!

So far, I’ve covered bagels (which, trust me, I rarely get sick of), but sometimes you want a real sit down breakfast filled with a bunch of different options. Walking downtown, I was pretty bummed that the Original Waffle Shop on West College Ave was closed due to COVID. But luckily, I had a friend visit me this weekend with a car and we were able to drive over to North Atherton to visit the Original Waffle Shop. Walking in, the restaurant has the homey feel like that I love – you can instantly tell that the food will be authentic and delicious. Looking at the huge menu, there are so many different options and combinations ranging from pancakes to omelets to sandwiches. With a name like the Waffle House, of course I had to try the waffles. I ordered the “Waffle Treat”, which is a Belgium waffle with one egg and two strips of bacon or sausage. I was super hungry so I also ordered a side of home-fries (which were amazing).

The waffle was super light and fluffy, my eggs were made just the way I wanted them (over-easy) and the bacon was perfectly crispy. Not to mention that the price is super affordable for a college student balling on a budget, but sadly no LionCash taken here. I ordered the original Belgium waffle but they have a ton of specialized waffles and pancakes covered in strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, and just about anything else you could want topped on a sweet breakfast treat.

Although I went for breakfast, the lunch menu also looks really good. From burgers to BLTs to quesadillas, I am positive that you will find something that you are in the mood for! If any of you guys have gotten lunch at the Waffle Shop, let me know what you ordered and I’ll try it next time!!

I really recommend this place if you are looking for a quick and delicious sit-down breakfast on the weekend. The atmosphere is super family orientated and friendly and it was overall a great experience. In even better news, word has it that the West College Ave location is opening soon, so you will all have an even easier time going over to try it.

Let me know of any other good breakfast places that I could try! I’m always down to experiment. Enjoy the new spring weather!

  1. I LOVE breakfast and could definitely eat it all day too. I’ve never tried the Waffle Shop, but with the downtown location opening back up, I’m planning on going all the time. Unfortunately, I am gluten free, so a lot of my favorites I can’t have any more. However, the Waffle Shop still seems to have plenty of options for eggs and meats that I can eat, so I’m excited to try it out soon!

  2. I have never been able to go to the Waffle Shop due to the aforementioned Covid policies, however I noticed that the downtown state college Waffle Shop has reopened! I think that it is open til 3 everyday and hopefully I am able to beat the crowd one day and go there myself later in the semester. Reading this made me hungry. Great Post!

  3. I never thought that this place was actually open. Usually whenever my family and I drive to and from state college this place never seems to be open. However, because of my love for great breakfast food s I will have to give this place a try.
