What’s next for the Green Bay Packers? The offseason will be determined by that query. The Packers must first wait for Aaron Rodgers to decide on his own football future before taking any action. Is this it for the 39-year-old player, or does he want to play another season? Do the Packers want him or Jordan Love if he wants to play in 2023? Regarding Rodgers, all options are available. And whether or not Rodgers is present affects plenty of other personnel choices. Do the Packers believe they can use Rodgers and this back in 2023? Or is this franchise prepared and eager to move into a new stage?
The media has publicized many of Rodgers’s comments surrounding his future, many of which not optimistic to if he will return. After claiming to “hold on” to his, perhaps, last Lambeau jersey, Rodgers has hinted at not returning the next season. In his post-game conference, Rodgers also articulated that it may be time to move on to short-term retirement and return to the game after a needed break from the NFL.
Aaron Rodgers: “It could be time to step away, but I could take some time and say, ‘Hell no, man. I need to get back out there and go on another run.’ But I’ll have to see what it feels like once I’m away from it.”

Rodgers has expressed that his decision will be made in a quick, timely manner to ensure sufficient time to decide the future of backup quarterback Jordan Love. Love’s fifth-year option is up for consideration by the Packers and is due on May 1. After selecting the Utah State player with the No. 26 overall pick in the spring of 2020, they haven’t seen much of him up to this time. In the regular season, he had only attempted 83 passes in his career, but on November 27, when the Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, he played the full fourth quarter and completed six of his nine passes for 113 yards and a score. The Packers must make a quick decision regarding their future quarterback; it is even possible that the Packers select a quarterback with the 15th selection of this year’s upcoming NFL draft.
However, Aaron Rodgers’s future is not the only decision the Packers need to address. With an increasing list of free agents, Green Bay must decide to resign many notable stars — Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Mason Crosby to name a few. With a young receiving core, Green Bay would lose any veteran help and knowledge if Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard are lost in free agency. Both have acknowledged that they may have played their last snaps as a Packer against the Detroit Lions. Mason Crosby, Robert Tonyan, and David Bhaktiari have enthusiastically articulated to return to the Packers squad, however — a silver lining.
With the 2023-24 NFL season quickly approaching, Green Bay has a slew of decisions to make regarding the future of the historic franchise. For the first time in over a decade, the Packers may see their legendary, acclaimed quarterback pass the throne to a young protegee. Packers fans, the dark ages have officially befallen the franchise. With much mystery surrounding the future of this organization, it may be time for a rebuild in Green Bay. I’ll see you all next week, Packers fans.
Great post Viraj! I really liked your analysis of the Packers and their off-season challenges. I personally think that Rodgers will not be returning to the Packers and I predict that they will move onto to Jordan Love. Based on Love’s performance last season, I think that he will fill the role of QB well next season and will be the future franchise QB for the Packers. Overall, I really liked your predictions and blog!
