Go Birds!

This upcoming Sunday, will most likely be the biggest Sunday in recent Philadelphia history. At 6:40 pm fans from all over the city and surrounding suburbs will flood Lincoln Financial Field to watch their Eagles play. The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC Championship and a ticket to the Super Bowl. The Eagles have not been to the Super Bowl since 2004, and they lost that game to the Patriots in overtime. It was a heartbreak for the team and also for the fans, and we have been waiting to get back.

In the beginning of this season, the Eagles were the team to beat. They were playing well in all aspects of the game and a Super Bowl seemed inevitable. But then, the team was plagued with injury. First, it was a Darren Sproles, a key special teams player. Then, it was Jason Peters who is a Pro Bowl left tackle. Lastly, the most heartbreaking injury of them all, Carson Wentz. Wentz was poised to win MVP and to lead us to the promise land. Hope seemed lost. We did not have a steady  quarterback and our defense was not performing.

All hope was put into the hands of Nick Foles. Foles used to play for the Eagles a few years back but was traded to the Rams after Chip Kelly left. Foles did not play well for the next few years and even contemplated retiring. It seemed that his hopes of winning an NFL championship were gone. But this year, Foles was signed once again by Doug Pederson. He was expected to just be a routine back up but with Wentz going down, Foles is now needed to take his place.

Last week, Foles had a big challenge when they faced the Falcons. The Falcons have a great defensive line and a solid secondary. With this defense and their stellar offense, it is easy to see why the media pundits picked the Falcons to win the game; that is unless you are a Philly fan. Philly fans are one of the most loyal fans groups in all of America and they always believe that their team will in. The Eagles pulled out a win by the skin of their teeth, but a win is a win. A now it is time for the Vikings.

Once again the sports leaders of the world have predicted us to lose this weekend and that is alright. Anyone who knows anything about Philly sports will know that the Linc will be rocking and no one within 100 miles is expecting us to lose. I predict that the Eagles will win by 10 points and the city will celebrate like it is the end of the world. This city has been deprived of championships year after year so for us to come this far and to win, it will be like Jesus’ second coming. Cars will be flipped, trash cans will be thrown, and the Philadelphia Eagles will be on their way to Super Bowl 52.

  1. You nailed the description of the loyalty of Philly fans, really gives a good look at the culture we have for people not from the area.
