MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS AND OTHER DRONES
Other Arts Ensemble (Penn State’s experimental music group) presents an evening of lush and meditative sound worlds. The glowing center of the program is a new and original arrangement of Brian Eno’s epically beautiful Music for Airports, a 1978 album credited with giving birth to the ambient music genre. Other Arts – which is a mixed-instrumentation ensemble that includes violins, viola, cello, trumpet, flute, accordion, saxophone, clarinet, voice, harp, guitar, harmonium, percussion, vibraphone, and kamancheh – will also perform a selection of pieces from the international Wandelweiser collective, an informal group of composers and performers known for their gorgeously refined and subtle tapestries of sound.
