Our next meeting of the semester will be held on Thursday, November 10 at 6:00 pm in 106 Sackett. Penn State Altoona Rail Transportation Engineering (RTE) instructor Bryan Schlake will be presenting on the topic of rail transport in the US in a presentation titled “Railroad Transportation: Dead or Alive?”. This will be a great opportunity to learn about a transportation mode other than highways. Pizza and drink will be provided!
More about Bryan Schlake: Bryan Schlake, Instructor in Rail Transportation Engineering at Penn State Altoona, earned both a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His graduate research with the University of Illinois Rail Transportation and Engineering Center (RailTEC) involved analysis of freight car condition monitoring technologies. Post graduation he served in both management and engineering roles at Norfolk Southern Railway. In addition to investing in the next generation of railroad engineers, Bryan is involved with research related to rolling stock safety, training within industry, and application of lean production principles to railroad operations. He is also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and currently serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Penn State Chapter at University Park.
