General Policies
- Trained and authorized users can operate the spectrometer on their own. If necessary, NMR facility staff will help with the operation. Users who need a full service (including services such as sample preparation, spectrometer setup and data analysis) may also approach the facility staff.
- Spectrometer access is available through walk up use or in advance reservation mode. Users can make an advance reservation in iLab and access the spectrometer by logging in just before the scheduled start time.
- Cancellation of a spectrometer reservation is allowed without any penalty. However, users who have not cancelled their reservation but failed to log in within a reasonable time from the scheduled start time will be charged for the entire scheduled time period. Further, NMR facility staff reserve the right to reallocate the spectrometer time of an absentee user to another.
- Users should not change the default experimental parameters without prior permission. Further, all user defined parameters (Ex. sample temperature) must be set back to the default value before logging out.
- Any malfunction/failure of the hardware, or an unusual behavior of the spectrometer, should be reported immediately. Users are not allowed to troubleshoot on their own.
- Temporary unavailability of a spectrometer due to hardware/software failure or maintenance will be communicated via email. This information is kept updated in the iLab system as well. NMR facility staff reserve the right to redistribute or cancel the spectrometer reservations due to any unforeseen circumstances.
- External storage devises should not be used on the spectrometer work stations. Data from all the spectrometers can be accessed using the workstation provided in the NMR computer facility (Room No.10). Please collect the data from that system only.
- Users should act responsibly. No food or drinks are allowed in any of the spectrometer rooms; please maintain the general hygiene of our facility. Overcrowding should be avoided; the presence of any un-authorized personnel should be brought into the attention of NMR facility personnel, or the Campus Police as appropriate.
- No magnetic materials are allowed within the 5 Gauss line of the superconducting magnets. People with pacemakers are prohibited from entering the spectrometer rooms. Users who have concerns about any other medical device that they rely on should contact the NMR facility director to determine whether approaching the superconducting magnets will be safe. The NMR Facility is happy to make accommodations for users with medical restrictions to their use of the spectrometers.
- Please check the individual sections to know more about spectrometer specific policies.
