The Penn State Pulsar Search Collaboratory is the only club at Penn State where you can receive college research credit! As a club, we analyze data retrieved by the Arecibo Radio Telescope and catalogue the data as either “noise” (background radiation), man-made radio frequency interference, or an authentic astronomical source such as a pulsar or a fast radio burst. As a team, we also assist surrounding high schools in their efforts to analyze drift scan data retrieved by the Green Bank Telescope by
hosting events such as database marathons, help sessions, outreach events, and an end of the year capstone event. We meet one hour a week on Tuesdays, and we even have a make up meeting every Friday for conflicts!
