E-Portfolio Rhetorical Situation
I believe that I will make my audience a less professional group, either my family or high school students. I don’t particularly want to focus on a professional audience since in my field, portfolios pretty much aren’t used. Any publication that is worthy of presenting to an employer would be published in a journal somewhere so if an internship or employer wanted a sample of that, I could simply direct them towards the journal database. My family, however, would be more interested in what I’m doing in school. Perhaps I can share the link with my grandparents, whom I think would be particularly interested since they strongly encourage college and, in fact, paid for my first two semesters here. I think a familial audience will also be more conducive to presenting the pieces I have written so far. Much of the writing in this English class, while perhaps excellent for those in creative, liberal arts, careers, have limited use for a scientific pursuit.
My other idea, high school students is interesting because then I could attempt to debunk some of the ever-present college myths perpetuated by fear-mongering high school teachers. It would have been quite helpful if, during my junior or senior year, I could have seen examples of the work being completed by college freshmen. As of now I am unsure of which of these topics I will choose.
Also, as a side note, the word counter on this post, which normally is quite accurate, is now reading 1175 words. Somehow I doubt that…
