The Walking Dead

Apparently this tv show still exists. Personally, I think they should have ended The Walking Dead roughly 4 seasons ago, but rarely do I get what I wish for.

Constantly, celebrities and popularity, perpetuated through the media, experience the push and pull of money and legacy, making the juxtaposition of success. For example, sports players take pay cuts for favorable teammates, locations, and ultimate success. They are seeking to cement their legacy within their passion, sacrificing millions of dollars. This, in my opinion, is a problem with many shows, specifically The Walking Dead. By Season 7, it is apparent that the show-runners care more about the money than the value of the show.

In a dystopian world, The Walking Dead portrays the survival of the human race and the changes when society collapses. If say, The Walking Dead ended around Season 6-7, its legacy would have been cemented as one of the most entertaining shows on television. Ultimately, the portrayal and development of the villainy in show draws in the viewer each and every week. In Season 3-4, we were given one of the greatest villains. Furthermore, as the viewer, we experience the loss and tragedy of characters and their transformations from those events. We understand character motivation and reasoning for their actions. On top of that, we get to see hoards of zombies, which aren’t CGI? The amount of time and skill that go into the extras is even more impressive.

However, at some point, a show can get repetitive. The Walking Dead suffers from similar action scenes and plot lines by the time Season 7 rolls around. Constantly, the viewer is force-fed material on new characters, which the writers want us to care about. Then they kill these characters off in the show and they act like we actually care. It leaves me baffled because I see a bunch of characters crying because someone died and I, as the viewer, can barely even remember the dead characters name. I am blatantly confused on whether I am supposed to care or not, like you only gave this character 5-minutes at best of solid development. And then of course, they don’t have the guts to actually kill the main characters. Yes, I love the main characters like everyone else but at a time, you have to move on from some of them. Obviously, the real problem is the actors are on multi-million dollar contracts for many seasons.

Apparently they started killing main characters off in the recent seasons but by that time, the viewership had drastically dropped off a cliff, so much so, that twitch streamers were pulling more viewership playing Fortnite. I only reference this point because the media made a huge deal that a “great show” like The Walking Dead was overtaken by the streaming industry. At this point, The Walking Dead was a former shell of itself already. Overall, just cancel the show. It should have ended a while ago. It frustrates me that I only can look at the negative because the show-runners were looking for a cash cow. Through the first four seasons, there was so much optimism and hope, and now, it is just boring.

  1. Alright, so at this point I feel like I have just never watched TV. The Walking Dead is another one of these hit TV shows you reviewed that I have never seen. Based on your review though, I think I’ll pass. Great work once again!
