Set up your own post

(For even more detailed information than what we provide here, be sure to visit the Picture Post Help Page)

For setting up your own post, you have to consider the perfect location – we can’t stress this enough!  Think about what changes you wish to monitor over time, such as environmental or seasonal plant cycles.  Choose a location best suited for your interests (e.g. a garden, wooded area, meadow, favorite tree, pond, etc.).  Make sure the post will be in a place where it can be easily accessed for other people to use if it is a public post.  We highly recommend encouraging public participation in collecting images at your post!

The first step is to get a post! You will need a 4″ x 4″, 7-8 foot post. You will also need a post head. They are $25 and can be ordered from the Picture Post website, or you can follow the instructions to build one yourself.

Installation instructions can be found at the Picture Post website.  Once your post is installed, be sure to get the word out, take lots of photos, and have fun!
