After some trouble getting up the post up and confusion on what day of the week it was I have finally been able to get my final post up. I figured that what better way to end a semester’s worth of pizza blog posts than by eating at the most central pizza place on campus: the Sbarro in the HUB. Coming into the review, I had low expectations because the only Sbarros I know are in rest stops and airports and they are typically pretty bad.
To begin my Sbarro experience I was a bit disappointed because they didn’t have a cheese pizza ready for me to try so I just had a slice of sausage and a slice of pepperoni which was fresh out of the oven. My experience was not actually that bad though considering that I was eating Sbarro pizza that was made by a bunch of random college students. I had a few criticisms of course but overall I am not unhappy. I am pretty pleased by the cheese. I think they used the perfect amount of cheese, it was cheesier than what I have been to recently around here. The sauce was pretty average. Definitely not bad, but also not good. I couldn’t distinguish any specific taste in the sauce, but it did not detract from the overall quality of my pizza. The dough was pretty okay. On my sausage slice I thought it was kind of burnt and didn’t love it, but on the pepperoni slice I liked the dough a lot more because I didn’t get any of that burnt taste. The crust though, tasted burnt for both slices and it was noticeably blackened on the pepperoni slice. Overall, I think the pepperoni slice was by far better because it was hotter and hadn’t been sitting out for as long as the sausage slice.
My final pizza ratings of the semester:
Crust/Dough – 5.5/10
Cheese – 7/10
Sauce – 5/10
Overall – 6/10
I can’t say that I like this pizza, but I also don’t think I dislike it either. I probably won’t be eating it again any time soon, but that is only because the HUB has lots of more enticing things for me to be eating. If you find yourself at a rest stop or airport and want some pizza really badly then Sbarro is a solid option. Otherwise, there are better options for you to get pizza from around State College and better places to eat food in general at the HUB.
It’s been real fun for me to try out all of these pizza places around campus, I hope those of you who’ve been reading my blog have gotten something out of it and maybe been convinced to try a new spot. Until next time – Jonathan
Although I have only been to two Sbarros in my lifetime, I can agree with you on your opinion of Sbarro pizza in the HUB. I had the pepperoni pizza there as well, and as a pizza lover, your rating seems very accurate. It was a pleasure reading your pizza ratings throughout the semester!
