Falling for U – Passion Blog

This week for my passion blog I’d like to take a look at indie singer Peachy! and her song Falling For U (feat. mxmtoon). The reason I’m choosing this particular song to analyze this week is that compared to many pop love songs, Falling For U has a sort of innocence around it that really gives it a different feel than what one would typically hear on the radio. For some background on the song, the song is about a girl who falls in love with her friend but is too afraid to tell them so she decides to keep it to herself.

The first verse goes, “I was hanging with you and then I realized I didn’t think it was true, I was surprised when I found out I’d fallen for you. I didn’t wanna believe my feelings for you. I didn’t wanna believe that I could lose you if I told you just how I felt”. This first verse is already fairly indicative of the meaning of this song, the singer has fallen in love with someone close to her and she is afraid to tell them because she doesn’t know how they’ll react.

The second verse goes “But I can’t help it, I’m falling for you and I can’t quit it ’cause I’m stuck on you. And it might be pathetic, and you might be skeptical, but I just want to be with you. Please tell me boy can you get a clue or come through ’cause I just want to be with you”. In this verse, the singer is begging that this boy that she has fallen in love realizes her feelings for him so that she doesn’t actually need to come clean herself and risk getting hurt, which is probably something that each of us has experienced at least once in our lives.

Next in the song is the bridge that goes “I’m scared of telling you how I feel. Maybe it’s better if I just try to conceal the truth for me and for you”. I really like the last line in this song that she doesn’t want to hurt herself or him, probably in reference to their friendship, which would probably be “ruined” by some level of awkwardness that would bloom as a result of unrequited love.

I love this song because it’s so simple, even the instrumentals in the song are simple and just there to back up the vocals and the lyrics that have such a simple yet powerful meaning.
