Situated in the Yerba Buena Arts District of San Francisco, the Museum of the African Diaspora is a contemporary museum of art that celebrates African art, history, and culture. It is important to understand the term “diaspora” as it pertains to African History. By definition, the African diaspora describes “people of African origin living outside the continent, irrespective of their citizenship and nationality and who are willing to contribute to the development of the continent and the building of the African Union.” The idea behind such an exhibition is to connect those of African descent to each other through their shared ancestry. Over the years, this museum has become an established landmark in the local art community and continues to educate visitors about the rich history of African culture both on and off of the continent.
