In the midst of a long and heated debate regarding immigration at the United States and Mexico border, Ronald Rael uses the border wall as a playground object to foster interactions between Americans and Mexicans separated by the border. With one end of the teeter totter in the US and the other end in Mexico, children from both countries can play together even while separated from each other. Rael San Fratello’s architectural installation is a lesson on the potential to create relevant cultural and political statements through architecture.
