Abstract:

Social media continues to gain users around the world rapidly each year. Since 2015, the number of social media users has more than doubled worldwide (Dean, 2021). Additionally, nearly all social media users access social media quickly and easily on a mobile device such as an iPhone. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between social media use, self-esteem, and satisfaction with life specifically in iPhone users. Participants completed an online survey which contains demographics, self-reported social media use, the Social Media Addiction Questionnaire (SMAQ), Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Participants also used the screen time feature of the iPhone to report weekly social media screen time usage.  I am interested in the relationship between reported social media use, actual social media use, self-esteem, and life satisfaction.
