Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to explore children’s literature in the form of picture books while utilizing interdisciplinary, multi-modal techniques to express thinking and learning.  Three questions guided this research: How does utilizing picture books within elementary school classrooms influence students’ thinking and learning?  How might utilizing picture books within the classroom provide opportunities to grow perspectives? In what ways can picture books be connected to academic standards and course curricula in an interdisciplinary way? Grounded theory was utilized to collect and analyze data. The data was triangulated by collecting multiple data types. Preliminary findings along with next steps will be shared.
