    Welcome!

PSI-FI’s digital workshop offers writers a great chance to receive critique for their work. Writers of all background are welcome, as long as the topic of their writing is within the broad definition of speculative fiction.

To JOIN, e-mail scifisocietypsu@gmail.com with “PSIFI FORUM” in the title. Please be sure that you use your PSU address, so you may log in with it on this website. You will be added as a participant on the forum as soon as possible.

    General guideline for critiquing

For Writers: Create a new topic, copy & paste your work into the body of the post OR attach it as a Word document if you would like feedback in the form of Word comments. Make sure that any formatting correctly propagates to the final view of the thread if you chose to copy & paste. We recommend attaching a Word document.

For Critiques: Try to think about what made the story pleasant to read or unpleasant to read. Write these out in a logical order and in a language that is not aggressive.

Try to generally avoid any “should” comments like “you should do this!” Instead, just express how you felt after you read the piece (e.g., “I liked character X, but I felt like they didn’t express enough emotions”). One exception to the “should” rule is when the author explicitly asks for particular advice on how an aspect of their story should be.  Also, try to avoid making statements like “the plot is slow” and instead try “the plot felt slow.” This small difference helps a lot by making your critique sound less harsh, and thus the writer may be more likely to listen to you.
