The goal painting above was to create an image using Fauvism, where the colors of the image are not what they normally would be in real life. The image I chose to paint was the view that I see when I look out the window of my bedroom. Before I even started to paint, I took the reference photograph that I would be using and edited it so I could visualize how the scene might look in different colors. After going through a few different colors I ultimately chose to stick with the filter that turned the plants red. The reason behind this chose was I got the idea to use colors to portray emotions of how a person might feel about their home verses the outside world. I attempted to portray a world where the outside is chaotic and loud, hence the heavy use of the color red, while the home is meant to be a calm environment where people can escape the chaotic nature of the world, which is why I chose the calming color blue to portray the houses. I made the objects in the painting loose with little detail because I wanted the color to be the main focus so the emotions behind it would be more impactful.
