The Penn State Brandywine Soccer Team has been led by Head Coach Thomas Greenawalt since 2018. In 2022, under Greenawalt’s guidance, Brandywine experienced one of its most remarkable seasons, remaining unbeaten in the regular season for the first time since 1989. During Greenawalt’s tenure, Brandywine secured its sixth consecutive PSUAC title, marking the team’s third championship under his leadership.
In his inaugural year, Greenawalt steered the Lions to a notable achievement with 17 victories, the second-highest single-season tally in the team’s history. The team secured the PSUAC championship by maintaining an undefeated record in conference play. Brandywine showcased its strength with 10 all-conference performers and four all-Americans, ultimately earning a spot in the USCAA National Championship.
Greenawalt, a distinguished high school soccer player recognized at the all-state level, excelled as a four-year letter winner on the men’s soccer team at Division I Marshall University. During his collegiate years, he garnered accolades such as all-region and academic all-conference honors. In 1999, he successfully obtained his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and legal studies.
Doug McDermott
Concluding his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Penn State Brandywine men’s soccer team in 2023, Doug McDermott played a crucial role in the team’s success.
During his initial season on the coaching staff, McDermott contributed to Brandywine’s achievement of its fourth consecutive PSUAC championship, with the team boasting a commendable record of 17-6-1. In 2021, under his guidance, the Lions secured another conference title and clinched the team’s second national championship, concluding the season with an impressive 19-3-3 record. In 2022, Brandywine marked a significant milestone by going undefeated in the regular season for the first time in 33 years, matching the program-record 19 victories set by the 2021 team.
