Alright, it has been a while since my last post, and in turn, it’s been a while since I’ve done calligraphy. This time around, I opted to go for something other that calligraffiti or something that was seasonal. I decided to be really original and just write my name.
On a serious note, although it is a simple thing to write your own name, and doesn’t really get me many creativity points, I wanted to go through with it, but try a new style as I did it.
Process:
For this project, I wanted to do it in another style, as aforementioned above. Usually, I go for a swirly style when it comes to making my letters, as I make the C-shaped curls on the bottoms of Ks, Ls, and Rs. But this time, I wanted to go more blocky, more defined, more geometric, if you will. Even though I was going for a geometric look, I still wanted to incorporate loops, so I made the first letters of my first and last name in my regular style, and made the lowercase letters in a blocky style.
I made the S with a straight line down that had a C curve at the bottom, then connected it to a slight S curve, and then connecting to the left of that, a diagonal line. To begin the lowercase letters, I started the I with a diagonal square, and then glided my pen downwards, until I made another diagonal square in the same direction. I used the same shape without the first square and a swoop at the top to make the two Ds in my name and remade the I again after those. For the K, I used the method for the I for the initial stroke, then used the I method on the bottom half to make the strut of the K, and used a diagonal square to make the top part of it.
Moving to my last name, I started the T with a large C curve, with a straight line in the center of it. I connected the straight line to the C curve with a smaller, reversed C curve. To make the top of the T, I just used a horizontal ‘swish’ to top it off. Moving onto the lowercase letters, I started the O the same way that I started the D, but did the same movement symmetrically to cover the other side. For the K, I drew it the same way that I did for my first name. I wanted to add more designs to it, so I used the shape for the lower case I in an elongated version to make a sort of “L” shape on the bottom left and top right of the frame. I added a circle made of two C curves as the cherry on top, with the final product being:
I hope this post was enjoyable to read, and I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving Break!!
