Showcase 3: Watershed Conservation & Development
CED 309 Land Use Dynamics
Dr. Frans Padt

In CED 309, students study land use changes from an environmental, economic, and institutional perspective through lectures, assignments, in-class exercises, and discussions. Students work on a Final Project with Spring Creek Watershed Association and ClearWater Conservancy on a variety of topics, including landscape preservation, bike and hiking trails, and water infrastructure. Students meet with the clients several times during the semester. Their research findings will be published on the Spring Creek Watershed Atlas website and at the Sustainable Communities Collaborative Expo. Students complete the Engagement Tool at the beginning and end of the semester. Reflection is facilitated throughout the semester through facilitated reflection sessions, write-ups, and informal conversations. I anticipate that students will learn to study the topic of their choice from their own and the client’s perspective to provide sound research results.
