Note: In Fall 2022, Penn State Greater Allegheny began phasing out its B.A. Degree in Communications and will not be admitting new students into the major. For more information, click here.

Penn State Greater Allegheny’s Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications offers students a wide range of potential career opportunities by combining the breadth of a liberal arts education with specialized training in Corporate Communications. Our curriculum is designed to help students develop diverse and highly marketable skills through courses, internships and experiences that connect contemporary theories and practices to both the challenges of the 21st Century workplace and the demands of everyday life. The aim of our program is to cultivate critical thinkers, problem solvers, media savvy professionals, and communications specialists who can succeed in the digital age and thrive within increasingly multicultural and complex societies.

The nature of the job market is highly competitive and most employers seek candidates with relevant knowledge and hands-on experience in their chosen field of work. Consequently, all students in the Communications major are required to complete an internship for credits during their senior year. In addition, our students have the ability to gain practical experience in digital publishing by working with our award-winning student newspaper, The GA-Zette.

Students accepted into our program have the option to complete their four-year degree at Penn State Greater Allegheny or they may also choose to apply their first two years of study toward the completion of a communications degree at another Penn State campus. This includes a wide variety of academic majors offered through both the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications and the Communication Arts and Sciences department at University Park.

Additional information about the Communications program at Penn State Greater Allegheny is accessible through the menu items above. Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Zack Furness, the Communications Program Coordinator, if you have any questions or would like to set up a time to chat about the program. He can be reached via email at zackfurness@psu.edu.
