IEEE’s projects committee kicked off the spring semester with a few, very exciting events that really characterize what is to come for the rest of the spring semester. First, members participated in an infrared and Arduino workshop, which ultimately would turn LED lights on and off using an infrared remote control. Next, to round out IEEE Projects’ January, in partnership with Lockheed Martin, IEEE kicked off its sponsored, inter-club project involving building cornhole boards with various electronic features, for example, an electronic score display with a sensor, etcetera.
Penn State IEEE values its ability to provide for its members a wide range of activities that suit everyone. This January, IEEE Social truly went above and beyond that goal. While coffee socials provide members with a quick break in between classes, study sessions allow members to sit down with fellow EECS classmates and really dig into class material together. For members looking to engage in some physical or competitive activities, IEEE Social hosted various events including rock climbing, floor hockey, and even a video game tournament sponsored by Northrop Grumman.
Penn State IEEE also values the opportunity of working to raise money and awareness for Penn State’s THON. THON is an organization that raises funds and awareness on behalf of families affected by pediatric cancer — for more information on how to get involved, please visit our THON informational page. This January, Penn State IEEE got its members engaged and involved for a great cause through our THON Bowling Night, which saw more than 30 participants and raised over $100, and through our Panda Express fundraiser.
Penn State IEEE’s corporate relations aims to provide its members with opportunities to build their professional skills and their professional network. This January, Penn State IEEE’s corporate relations did so by preparing members for January’s engineering networking reception, and February’s “Spring Career Days” with a resume review workshop. If your company is interested in sponsoring Penn State IEEE, please visit our Work With Us page.
