You will be contributing to the future of medicine with us. By joining the program, you will help Penn State Hershey physicians and scientists conduct the necessary research that will turn current scientific discoveries into patient care. This will take time, effort and substantial financial resources. However, we are committed to making this investment in Personalized Medicine because we believe it will eventually benefit our patients. While you may not benefit immediately, our goal is to use the findings from the research we do today to shape clinical care in the future. Accordingly, your participation in the program could improve healthcare for you, your children, your grandchildren, and your family members in the coming years.
Will I get my genome sequenced and are there return of results?
Your genome may or may not be sequenced based on the aim of the project. Should a researcher find results that may have potential benefit to the patient, a Program Return of Research Results Board has been formed to provide a venue for investigators to report results they feel may have potential clinical significance. The Board assumes the responsibility of determining what should be done with the research results. Its mission is to ensure that any research results that could impact the clinical care of the participant be appropriately transmitted to the participant’s physician and/or relevant providers. No results will be transmitted directly to participants.
