Unit 02 Scenario

Based on your educational pamphlet regarding servant leadership, Claire, the CEO, has expressed great interest in becoming more of a servant leader herself. With her interest kindled, your new task is to identify ways that you may be better able to help her transition into acting as a servant leader.

In order to do this, you conduct interviews with several of Claire’s subordinates. You also have Claire complete a few self-assessments to gather more information about her natural personality tendencies, skills, and abilities, and current approach to leading. Below is a summary of the data you have gathered.

Narrative Comments from Subordinates

  • “She’s really good at knowing what we should be doing. I just wish she was a little less blunt when assigning tasks.”
  • “She challenges me with the assignments I’m given. It’s just that sometimes I’m afraid of what will happen if I make mistakes.”
  • “I think our CEO has the skills to turn our company around, but sometimes I question whether she has the vision to put us on a better track.”
  • “I’m sure she’s a good leader, but I don’t find her particularly approachable.”
  • “Sometimes I feel like I’m just a number here. I doubt our CEO even knows my name.”
