Assignment

This commissioned assignment gives students the opportunity to be part of promoting a public documentary, Speaking Grief, to students as well as to create materials for university courses that critically engages that documentary. Two possibilities exist for such work:

  1. Create a multimedia campaign promoting the November 2020 release of the documentary.
  2. Research and contribute content to the Speaking Grief website (currently in progress) to be released alongside the documentary.

Because of the sensitive nature of this content, The Grief Project requests an instructor to work on this project who has specialization in trauma or affect studies.

Background

Speaking Grief is an ongoing public service media project that will include a documentary produced by WPSU Penn State, a website with online resources defining grief and providing resources for building empathy with those who are grieving, and a marketing and social media campaign to promote community engagement events. The aim of the initiative is to share stories of grieving in order to begin a national discussion of how we grieve, how to help the bereaved, and how to provide guidance to companions on how to offer meaningful support.
