PSU Red White N Clue is a 2020 red roan gelding (Red White N Good X PS Clues Patty) Owned and shown by Alyssa King. “Jiggsaw” is currently in training with Bryant and Charity Fox of BC Quarter Horses in Findlay, OH. His first show season was in 2023 and he exceeded every expectation they had. “Jiggsaw” and Alyssa earned multiple top placings in every show ring! Some accomplishments include: showing at the All-American Youth Horse Show and leaving with 1st in 15-year-old horsemanship and equitation, 3rd in 15-year-old horsemanship championships, English showmanship, and Hunter Under Saddle. They also got the opportunity to show at the 2023 All-American Quarter Horse Congress where the pair came home with the Reserve Champion title in the youth 3-year-old halter geldings, and finalists in the level 1 youth equitation. “Jiggsaw” and Alyssa are looking forward to showing at the Level 1 Championships at The World Equestrian Center in 2024, as well as going back to the All-American Youth Horse Show and Congress. Alyssa describes “Jiggsaw” as having the silliest personality, and the biggest heart. One thing Alyssa loves about “Jiggsaw” is how versatile he has always been. She says he has the best mind of any horse she’s ever swung her leg over. They can go from showing the hunter under saddle in the morning to showing the horsemanship in the afternoon. He has such a ‘teachable’ mind, is always willing to learn, and doesn’t take a wrong step in anything. She is so thankful for her purchase of him from the 2022 Penn State Quarter Horse Sale.

PSU Nuly Loaded Gun at Virginia Maiden & Spring BreakoutKaren Gilliland is the proud owner of PSU Nuly Loaded Gun, a 2019 mare by PSU He Rox The Nite and out of Fancee Boom Cash. She is in training with Hill Performance Horses in Sharpsville, PA, and has been doing fantastic in the show ring. “Fancee” started her career off as a Reserve Circuit Champion in Junior Ranch Trail Classes at the Florida Gulf Coast Circuit and has continued her excellent performance at the 2023 Virginia Maiden & Spring Breakout earning Circuit Champion in Junior Ranch Conformation and Reserve Champion in the 4 & 5 Year Old Ranch Riding Derby. Karen’s five-year-old grandson also showed her in Leadline, where they were Class Champion. Karen says “Fancee is a very special horse and they are happy with her calm, quiet, easy disposition.”

Kyleigh Faith and Jessica Swauger are the proud owners of PSU A Krymsun Lion, a 2019 Mare by One Hot Krymsun and out of PSU No Doubt A Lion. “Piper” has been in full-time training with Samantha Beal in Smock, PA, since her purchase in 2021. In her first year of showing, she earned several points in Showmanship and has been successful in the Western All-Around, as well as showing in Leadline with Jessica’s five-year-old son. They plan to continue her show areer in Centre Hall but have hopes of showing at the Quarter Horse Congress and some other larger shows. “Piper” is very easygoing and has been a joy for her owners. She has a great disposition with a goofy and fun personality. Jessica says “they enjoy showing with other PSU horses and her advice for anyone looking to purchase a PSU horse would be to DO IT, you will not be disappointed!”

PSU Shaded in Blue (Image of Shadow X MLF Rhapsody in Blue), also know as “Blue,” is a 2010 gelding Ash started riding in 2023. He was already a client of hers through her PEMF business and the pair currently live in the West Michigan area. “Blue” already had a crazy impressive show record in the Hunter Under Saddle, with multiple top 5s, 10s, and 15s at the Congress, national and state titles, etc. He is a professional at what he does and was happy to show her the ropes. They did their first show after only 3 rides together, and she was shocked at how easily he turned on his game face. He is an amazing athlete, and they have become a strong team. “Blue” is the best-minded, safest, and most talented horse Ash has ever ridden. He can take 5 months off and walk into the showpen ready to win. He doesn’t need any special routines to get shown, you could put any tack on him, warm up or not, and he would just do his job. His focus level is amazing, there is nothing that prevents him from performing. He got kicked in the middle of their class when a horse bolted next to them, he never even flinched, and they ended up winning the class! He has also been so willing to learn new classes that she enjoys showing in, like horsemanship and equitation, and go out on fun trail rides. Although he is a safe ride for anyone, he is not “easy” by any means, which she appreciates. “Blue” keeps her in check and lets her know when she’s not riding or asking him to perform to the best of her ability. That being said, a complete beginner could take him out, and he would absolutely take care of them. Some of their accomplishments in 2023 include multiple all-around high point awards in the L1 Amateur division at AQHA shows, and they ended up 4th in the nation for the RK AM horsemanship! He also took Ash to her first Congress, where they placed in the top 15 in the L1 Am equitation. That is the biggest accomplishment of Ash’s career so far!

Randy and Darcy Mitchell, owners of Randy Mitchell Quarter Horses in Freeport, PA, have owned and trained numerous PSU horses and state that all of the horses they have purchased are “great-minded, easy to work with, and have excellent breeding and confirmation.” To name a few- PSU Rockin Robin (PSU Dynamic Krymsun X Willy Invite Her) won the 3-year-old Limited Non-Pro Western Pleasure at the Little Futurity and was tied for 3rd at the Tom Powers Futurity in 2014. PSU Krymsun Time (PSU Dynamic Krymsun X Skipin N Time) and PSU Invest N Krymsun (PSU Dynamic Krymsun X PSU Invest In Shadow) were both trained and sold and are being shown successfully in the HUS classes. PSU Krymsun Time has also been a finalist at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. They currently have clients that own PSU horses as well. One client owns PSU Dynamic Blue Sky (PSU Dynamic Krymsun X Skys Blue Whisper). This pair was Top Ten at the Tom Powers Futurity in the Limited 3-Year Old HUS and they have earned points in the Amateur HUS. Allison Mitchell currently rides PSU Lazy Lopin Lion (Lazy Loper X Dynamic Zippo) in the Small Fry Walk Trot and will soon move into the 11 and under Western Pleasure. They also showed PSU Krymsun For Sure (PSU Dynamic Krymsun X Festive For Certain) with Darcy Mitchell in the 2-year-old Western Pleasure Futurities.

Hope Bratton from Milroy, PA, owns PSU One Kool Kat, a 2019 gelding by One Hot Krymsun and out of MyChipsAreOnTheTable. “Chip” is currently in training with Scott and Tracey Kauffman in Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA. Hope was very excited to start his show career in 2022. She cannot say enough about the unbelievable disposition and talent that “Chip” has shown. Soon after purchase, Hope (a novice) was riding “Chip” in full warmup pens at AQHA shows by herself. He has handled everything like a pro and is 100% novice-safe. Hope says that “Chip” was the “best purchase ever” and “there is not one day that she regrets purchasing him.” She absolutely loves this horse. “Chip” was shown in Select All Around classes with Hope and Open Western Pleasure classes with Scott and Tracey Kauffman. Regarding the 2021 sale, Hope stated that “everything relating to the sale/purchase of Chip was fantastic. From Brian making time for me to come see him in person before the sale, answering numerous questions about him, to bidding, purchasing, and pickup was fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about the Penn State Equine Program!”

Carissa Chilcott is the owner, trainer, and exhibitor of 4-time World Champion and 4-time Reserve Champion PSU Nittany Kuel  (2011, Kuel Minnick X Cee Jackie Step) and PSU Stoppin for Chex (2019, PSU He Rox the Nite X Luva Chex). Carissa was 17 years old when she bought 2 year 2-year-old “CJ” at the 2013 auction to self-train as her 4-H project horse. “CJ” won the State 4-H junior horse show as a 3-year-old. He continued to do well locally receiving compliments from judges and fellow exhibitors. Carissa decided to try AQHA and jumped in by taking “CJ” by herself to the Quarter Horse Congress. The team has now shown at AQHA World, VRH World, and numerous other World Shows. Besides the 8 World titles, they have collected 15 championship belt buckles and 2 NSBA trophies. “CJ” shows no signs of slowing down. He is a very athletic and willing horse who excels at Ranch Trail, Ranch Riding, and Ranch Reining. At the 2021 PSU Sale, Carissa added PSU Stoppin for Chex to her herd. She believes in starting a horse slowly, so “Chex” was only shown locally. In his first class, Carissa’s goal was simply to introduce “Chex” to the sights and sounds of a rail class. “Chex” evidently had another goal. In true PSU horse fashion, he listened to all of Carissa’s instructions and won the class! His next class included a pattern, and he did every step with the finesse of a seasoned horse instead of a 2-year-old. He once again won! At the following show during a large rail class, the sky opened up with thunder and lightning. While more experienced horses bolted, 2-year-old “Chex” kept trusting Carissa and remained calm. He received a well-earned 2nd place in a very competitive large class. Carissa hopes to one day own a horse training facility and continue to buy, sell, and show PSU horses.

Alyssa Karenbauer purchased PSU Rockin The Blues during the 2020 sale. “Blue” is currently thriving under the guidance of Dan Rawlings Quarter Horses. Many do not know, but “Blue” almost did not end up in the sale due to her going into liver failure at the age of 6 months. The cause remains a mystery, but Alyssa noted that Brian and the team did not give up throughout the process, and “Blue” eventually pulled through. Her auction description included this issue as a warning, but Alyssa knew that she had to take a chance on this filly, and it “turned out perfect” for her. She has never had another issue, and they had a great 2021 show season in the Hunt Seat. She placed in almost all of her classes, and she made the Finals in the 3-year-old Futurity at the Congress. “Blue” handles everything with ease and is a barn favorite. Alyssa cannot wait for their second season in 2022.

Sydney Vogt, our very own 2018 Sale Manager, is the owner of PSU Hollywood Nights, the top-selling horse of the 2017 Penn State Quarter Horse Sale. He is boarded and training with Rhonda Replogle. He has been shown in the Open Ranch Riding with Rhonda Replogle and Sydney had shown him in the level 1 Amateur Ranch Riding and the Amateur Ranch Riding. They have also been working toward Ranch Rrail.

Ashleigh Egan purchased PSU Scorin A Win, a 2013 gelding by Time to Score and out of Luv N Lady, at the 2015 Sale. As a PSU Horse Barn live-in, she immediately bonded with “Luke” from the time of foaling. In 2016, Ashleigh and Luke showed in Halter, earning 8.5 points. They also were invited to attend the 2017 AQHA Level 1 Championship in Raleigh, NC. Ashleigh states that her experience with Penn State has been “nothing but pleasant.” She believes that this program “is such an awesome opportunity not just for students but the equine community.” She would like to thank the Equine Science Program and the Horse Barn for the opportunity it gave her as a student and for the memories and opportunities it still presents her today.

Jen Treas from Lewisburg, PA purchased PSU Nimble N Fancee (2014 mare by Willie be Nimble and out of Fancee Boom Cash) at the 2016 Sale. Since then, she has completed training in competitive mounted shooting and was shown for a full year on the East Coast, including AQHA shooting to qualify for Worlds. Jen tells us that “Fancee is bred so well with conformation, agility, and an excellent personality.” Jen states that she has only had great experiences with Penn State. She also states “the sale is always fun to attend” and she “can’t wait to see what the future holds”.
