Welcome to the Queer Colored Love archive! My name is Kenneth Ye, and I am currently an undergraduate student at Pennsylvania State University majoring in Women’s Studies with a minor in Gender & Sexuality Studies. In this archive, we will be diving into how the lived experiences of queer individuals of color differ in the age of social media through intersectional analysis. For those that do not know what intersectionality is, it is the different identities that an individual holds, such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc., and how all of these identities intersect and/or overlap in order to create a personalized lived experiences filled with privilege and prejudice. Therefore, we will be seeing how queer individuals of color differ from their Caucasian queer counterparts through different forms of media and content. For example, when queer individuals of color are on social media, such as Instagram and/or Facebook, they are constantly bombarded with society’s Eurocentric beauty standards. However, how does that affect queer individuals of color? How are queer individuals of color even represented and/or excluded from social media as a whole? Why and how are queer individuals of color treated the way that they are in their own LGBTQ+ community? These are the topics that will be discussed throughout this archive with some references to some queer theorists and intersectional analysis.
