This peer-reviewed research article by Alexander Cho was published in December 12, 2017, and it focuses on how queer youth of color prefer utilizing the social media platform of Tumblr to express their personal beliefs and ideas of intimacy. This explains that because Tumblr is not as mainstream or as utilized by the public as much, there is still a sense of anonymity and safety in users expressing their ideas and thoughts. There are not many family members who utilize Tumblr, and because of that, the queer youth of color community prefers to utilize it as there is not a large sense of “publicity” as the article states, in which the ideas and thoughts shared on Tumblr are really only acknowledged by a small community that makes it harder for the posts to become viral.

This content fits in with this archive because it brings up how queer youth of color are able to have a safe space and area where they can share their thoughts and ideas of sexuality and other issues relating to their multiple identities on a social media platform without heavy scrutiny. The article showcases how queer youth of color feel as though the community on Tumblr is more accepting and less visible to the public, therefore, they are able to freely share their opinions and ideas regarding their intersectional identities while networking with other queer youth of color. This shows the importance for queer youth of color to be able to have a community in which they can share their experiences and how they feel having their racial/ethnic identities playing a role in their lived experiences.
