Brief Description of Research ProjectThis project will develop improved methods to assess and repair fatigue cracks when they are initially identified. The current practice uses visual inspection to determine the crack geometry and to drill crack-arrest holes. Field experience, however, suggests that cracks “re-initiate” from these holes.
