Vanessa Miller

Vanessa Miller is a fourth-year J.D./Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Education Policy Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. Her research interests include critical race theory, feminist legal theory, civil rights, and social science research in law and policy. Originally from Miami, Florida, Vanessa is a first-generation Cuban-American. She received her undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Florida and her master’s degree in philosophy and education from Teachers College, Columbia University. During her master’s program, Vanessa was a teaching assistant for the Department of Education Policy and Social Analysis, a research assistant for a study conducted by the Columbia University Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race, and a graduate intern for the Civil Rights Bureau of the New York Attorney General’s Office. Vanessa taught introductory philosophy courses at Penn State, presented papers on the relationship between colleges and the courts, and was a contributing writer for Penn Statim on race and the law. Vanessa previously externed for the Penn State Office of General Counsel, the Honorable Magistrate Judge Arbuckle, III in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and the Penn State Law Civil Rights Appellate Clinic. Over the summer, Vanessa is interning with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. She is a B.A. Rudolph Foundation 2018 Graduate Public Service Scholar and a Penn State Law Public Interest Law Fund 2018 Fellow.
