On the whole I felt moved by the Ted Talks of my classmates. I heard presentations about the evolution of sacrifice, the importance of creating equity for people with natural hair, and the damage done, and continuing to be done because of “stop and frisk”. I felt deeply moved by these topics and the comprehensiveness with which they were talked about. The most powerful component, to me, was the passion I could see all my classmates had for their topics. Not only did their caring about the topic make the presentation more enjoyable to watch, it also made it appear more important to me. I felt like I walked away from the Ted Talks interested and inspired.
Similarly, for my History of Public Controversy project I want to pursue an idea for which myself, my group, and our University hold a passion. Some of the topics I’d want to explore are loan forgiveness, climate change, or expression of and representation of the LGBTQIA community. Overall I hope to foster curiosity around an issue that is important to the community at large.
