Lewis Capaldi

This week I thought I would introduce you to one of my favorite artists who’s style is slightly different that those I have spoken about prior. Lewis Capaldi is Scottish singer who debuted on the charts in early 2019. His genre is defined as a blend of folk rock and pop, which makes for some of the most beautiful music that I have heard.

I found out about Lewis Capaldi when I was in the car with my mom. We were listening to the radio and his single “Someone You Loved ” came on and we were instantly hooked. It is the type of song you can belt out and let all your emotions out because of the heartfelt and pain filled lyrics. His voice is distinct because it is raspy and rough but at the same time it is sweet and relaxing.

The BBC even called him “The man with the biggest sad song of the year” and they are certainly not wrong. His song reached number one on the billboard 100 and the song is still gaining popularity every day. Although “Someone You Loved” is his biggest hit, my favorite song by him is “Lost On You”. I highly recommend that you check that song out as well!

What I find to be my favorite thing about him is the fact that he sounds nearly exactly the same in his recorded songs and live performances. He performed at The Today Show back in July and it was incredible how amazing he sounded. There are very few artists you can truly say sound so similar live and Lewis Capaldi is definitely one.

Lewis Capaldi also has the personality of an entertainer. Recently, someone found his tinder page and released it to the internet. In response to this, Capaldi said “This is my only lifeline I have left before I am resigned to a lifetime of  living with my mother.” According to NME, he even gave out free tickets to those who matched with him. For some having their tinder released would be embarrassing but he decided to make it into a joke and even surprise some fans!

Lewis Capaldi has the personality and talent to really grow into a worldwide artist. His has such meaning in his music that so many artist lack in today’s music. So the next time you need a good cry, listen to Lewis Capaldi.
